Dr. Jackie's Point of V

Aug 12, 2021

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women will experience some form of physical, sexual, emotional, psychological abuse and/or stalking in their lifetime. Yet, approximately 45% of Black women experience DV compared to 35% of White women, and about 2.5 times the rate of women of other races. Also, Black women are almost 3 times more likely to die from DV than their counterparts, making it one of the leading causes of death for Black women ages 15-35.

In this episode, Dr. Jackie is joined by Dr. Shanita Brown, Ph.D., a board certified licensed professional counselor who specializes in intimate partner violence.  They discuss the differences between a healthy, unhealthy and abusive relationship, understanding the pattern of abusive and violent behavior, strategies to get out of an abusive relationship, and resources that can help.
